Retro Doll

I don't know what it is but I have been loving everything retro. When I first saw this skirt on Lulu's website, I was mesmerized. Its simplicity is what drew me to it. I paired the skirt with a Bebe corset that I bought about 2 years ago, some simple slingbacks and a metallic cuff. I had envisioned my hair to be a little more old-school but the humidity today was crazy! Nonetheless, I enjoyed the morning thunderstorm, the fresh scent of summer rain brought back many memories. I miss summers in Mexico.

Skirt: Lulu's, Shoes: Nine West, Corset: bebe, Sunglasses & Cuff: Forever 21

Liked my Around the clock Polka Dot Skirt? Although it is SOLD OUT on Lulu's, keep checking back here, they re-stock frequently...or get it at Thirteen Vintage.

Also check out this Vintage Polka Dot Rockabilly Maxi Twirl Skirt on ebay, polka dots are white and much smaller, but still very girly and cute.

For the polka dot nail tutorial, click here.

I have also been loving the very talented music group Karmin, and boy oh boy Amy's style is so amazing and that VOICE! I leave you here with one of my favorite songs they covered, and please check out their collaboration with Questlove and Owen from the Roots! I am beyond amazed with their versatility.

What a Steal! Perfect Little Fall Dress

As I am typing this post, my window is being bombarded with huge raindrops from the storm we are having. I love thunderstorms, and that is why I have decided to do a post on an upcoming fall trend. Dresses!

Flare, flare and more flare. When I turned 15 years old and had the traditional QuinceaƱera, my dress had bell sleeves. I loved that dress with a passion and now, I can wear a similar version of it without looking QuinceaƱera-ish.

I found this Parker Double Flared Sleeve Dress with Print on Shopbob. For fall, add opaque tights and thigh high boots and you are set to go. While this dress it lovely, I would not spend $220.

Therefore, I found this Ashlee Paisley Bell Dress on Alloy for $44.90.

Even better is this Promo Code that will take 15% off your entire purchase: 15SAVMA

You can also find this dress in black and pink.

Move Over Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips!

I was recently looking frantically for my box of pore strips. My nose needed one desperately...but the strips were nowhere to be found. After 20 minutes, I came to the conclusion that I had probably used the last of them....but then I remembered! Michelle Phan posted this video explaining the simple steps in creating your own pore strips. I tried it for the first time and I was IMPRESSED...good-bye Biore...hello DIY pore strips!

You will need:
  1. Unflavored Gelatin
  2. Milk
  3. Glass
  4. Brush
This works wonders!

YouTube beauty guru, Sonia Castaneda did a video response to Michelle's video. If you would like to check it out, click here.

What a Steal! Tuxedo Dress

There is no denying that JLo has tremendous style. While in Paris, she wore Rachel Zoe's Tuxedo Jacket Dress and looked like the gorgeous diva she is.

This dress may not be exactly the same as Zoe's 2011 Fall collection dress but it is right within our budget!
Care to show off those sexy legs just like the diva?

Pleat Craze

Who can forget the iconic blue Halston Heritage Cocktail Dress with Pleats Carrie wore on Sex and the City 2? Original retail price = $435, pocket change, right? Not! The dress is simply breathless. Flowy, great material, fantastic color, just perfect to turn some heads while you walk the walk. Earlier this year I had seen a very similar dress at the mall but decided not to buy it because of its color. I am already pale and by wearing a nude colored dress, it would have just simply washed me out, therefore, I passed.

This past Monday, while catching up on some of my favorite fashion blogs I came across Flor de Maria's A La Carrie Bradshaw post. While on a trip to NYC, she wore a beautiful blue Parker Pleated Georgette dress channeling Carrie Bradshaw. Her outcome? Fantabulous! Not only was her outfit flawless and her combination of accessories impeccable but she really owned that dress...the chika definitely took over the city. If you like her dress, Nordstrom also has it in yellow, and though less expensive than the original Carrie dress, $258 might still be too much for the rest of us.

Some of you may not know me very well, but those who do, know that when I set myself to do something, I do everything possible to achieve it. Therefore, I came across some fantastic alternatives that will have you looking like Carrie in no time...oh, and I forgot to mention, for a much much cheaper price. Don't you just love that?

I personally have not shopped at Dillard's, in fact, I honestly do not know if I have one locally but I have heard about it a lot from YouTube beauty guru Julieg713, and she is a source I would definitely trust! Dillard's has the B. Darlin Pleated Dress for $79. It comes in the color French Navy and let me tell you...you won't be disappointed. The dress is almost identical and the best part is that it's only a fraction of the price.

When it comes to really saving your dinero, my place to go has always been F21 and evidently, I hit the jackpot. I found 2 dresses, the first one being this Night Out Pleat Dress in the color coral. Look = identical, price = to die for, you = very happy (I hope!). This dress also comes in the color nude. The other dress I found is the Animal Accordion Pleat Dress. Though it has a print, the style is pretty much the same.

Check out another one of my favorite fashion bloggers with a dress she found at a thrift store! Annabelle's post: A Moment in Time

Tu piel no luce saludable?

Love it or Hate it: Cold Shoulders

Last week, while browsing through Forever 21's website, I came across this Shoulder Cutout Denim Shirt...it was purchased in a flash! I loved the retro look and the light denim color. I received my order this past Tuesday and I cannot wait to wear it to the OC Fair this weekend.

While some may think this look/style is a bit antiquated...I find it versatile and great for the summer. Plus, doesn't it look sexy?

To my surprise, these open shoulder shirts are popping up everywhere. Lulu's has the Volcom Lottie Dot Navy Blue Polka Dot Top. If you are looking for a more softer and lighter material than denim, you may like their Appian Way Blue Top. This oversized top is comfortable AND stylish.

Now if you are looking to splurge a little, meaning that you are willing to pay more than $50...Urban Outfitters has this lovely Urban Renewal Cold Shoulder Denim Shirt and the Urban Renewal Cold Shoulder Western Shirt that you may only purchase online. FYI, the Urban Renewal Cold Shoulder Denim Shirt has had great reviews!

Let your imagination run wild, pair this shirt with a maxi skirt, leather shorts, or some casual jeans. Make it YOURS.

"Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can't buy more hours. Scientists can't invent new minutes. And you can't save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow." ~Denis Waitely

Jumpsuit Addict

I don't know what it is about jumpsuits but I've grown a strong bond towards them. I LOVE them. I like how they look and feel on my body, I also feel like there is some kind of elegance to them. Everytime I wear a jumpsuit, someone always comments on it. Below you will find a few of my favorites. Some I have purchased and others are on my wishlist.

I recently wore the Cheetah Jumpsuit from Forever 21. It is extremely comfortable and it almost feels like a dress. It was so flowy and I was by no means hot in it, in other words: easy breezy! The Samantha Jones Strapless Black Jumpsuit immediately caught my eye, doesn't it look so chic?

ASOS Halterneck Denim Jumpsuit is HOT, wait until you see the back! ASOS Tailored Color-Block  Draped Jumpsuit reminds me so much of Gucci's ColorBLOCK Spring/Summer 2011 Collection.

H&M Leopard print jumpsuit...need I say more? Bebe's Summer 2010 Collection green jumpsuit...so sexy and fabulous...!

...and finally, these last two jumpsuits. Charlotte Russe's Wide Leg Woven Jumpsuit is classic and I absolutely love the wide leg (just in case you have not noticed). French Connection Pina Colada Beach Jumpsuit, casual, flirty and perfect for summer.

What is your summer addiction?

Match the Celebrity: Kim Kardashian

It is mid-July and I ask myself, where has the summer gone? As we start getting ready for another week of 90-100+ degree weather, I realize that summer is making its presence strong and clear. Therefore, as an alternative to wearing a bikini around the house (kidding!), rompers are still holding their ground as a perfect piece for this season. Cute, simple and flattering.

What I like about Kim Kardashian's olive romper is its length. We used to have a rule in middle school, "If your shorts/skirts are shorter than the end of your fingertips when you place you arms alongside your body, then it is too short to wear to school." I still tend to abide by that rule. Surprised?

When I saw Kim wearing this romper I searched and searched the internet for a similar romper, but the only ones I came across were too short for my taste. The only way I would wear short shorts/skirts is with black nylons! Lulu's has a Theme Jane Godall Olive Green Romper, that although it might still be a bit short for me, it is beautiful and very similar to that of Kim's.

Since the 70s have also made a great comeback, it looks like platforms have also taken center stage and the higher the shoe the better. I found these ADYY demi-wedge sandals online at Bakers for only $19.90!

To give her outfit a pop of color, she opted for a bright orange crocodile clutch. Check this Charisma Croc Clutch from Forever 21, though not orange, it is a bright pink. If you choose to add a thicker belt just like Kim did, Forever 21 has a large selection, like this Scalloped Stretch Belt. Finally, we cannot step outside without protecting our eyes from the rays of the sun. Charlotte Russe's Metallic Aviator Sunglasses are perfect to finish off your summer look.

Alternative shoes: Go Jane's Chunky Leatherette Cross Strap $25.30 (20% off site-wide from July 15-August 15, enter code 20PSWA at checkout)

P.S. I would like to thank EVERYONE who voted for me for Project Style Round 3. We won and now we are moving on to the final round this September. I will keep you posted with news. Thanks once again!
